Haiti Travels

Adam and I continue to have a huge heart for Children of the Promise. We had been planning a trip to visit this Christmas break since we left Haiti nearly 5 months ago. Adam will still be visiting, but I am not going with him. Some of the children are sick with cholera. I love these children and would appreciate it if you would join me in prayer. You can read updates on the children at the COTP webpage. Please pray for Adam's safe travels as well. He will leave December 27th and return on January 5th.

4th of July

In school we had a pretty normal start to our day. We made our own 4th of July fireworks and then dressed up in red, white, and blue.

At night we watched the movie Madagascar.

Central Baptist Youth Group

This week has been one of my favorite weeks in Haiti. Our church's youth group joined us for a week of service last Tuesday. They worked hard on many projects. Below are photos of some of them. They painted three large murals. Our youth pastor, Jason, drew the murals and then the team did a paint-by-number kind of thing.

The students helped the cleaning staff wash the baby clothes, clothe diapers, and blankets. At COTP all laundry is done by hand. No washing machines and no wash boards. Instead, the items is rubbed between your wrist. Each item is washed three times. This is easily the hardest job. The students were great sports about helping wash clothes.

The students also put up the walls to our first house. Before the youth group arrived all that was there was the foundation and the first layer of blocks to outline the walls. These students worked along side the construction crew to put up all the walls.

The student also spent a lot of time investing in the children at COTP. This was by far the most meaningful part of their trip. The children at COTP are so precious! The children love listening to stories, so everyone received the opportunity to read a few stories. The photo below is story time being interrupted by a baby lizard.

Feeding 60 kids is a lot of work. The team helped feed breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner.

A Birthday

Birthday's at COTP are a big deal. Most of our babies/toddlers come to us malnourished, premature, or ill; therefore it is a celebration that these kiddos make it to their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd birthday. They have had a tough beginning and have fought to survive. It is such a joy to celebrate a birthday.

Typically Chante throws the birthday parties. We have 60 kids, so 60 parties a year. A week ago we through the party instead. What a blessing!

Easter Concert

Tuesday afternoon we had our Easter Concert. The entire Lion room came to the concert, but just the morning preschool class sang. The song was "Lord I Lift Your Name On High."

They have improved greatly from their Christmas Concert. A child who wouldn't go any where near the "stage" sat on my lap during the concert. A child who looked around last time sang.

I am so proud of them!

The Easter Bunny Came

Our book for shared reading this last week has been Spot's First Easter, in order to prepare us for the Easter Bunny's arrival. Finally the Easter Bunny came and we were so excited to find all the eggs he hid around our classroom.

Sara did all the prep work for these cute Easter Bunny masks I found here and Aimee helped the kids make them. Thanks girls we loved them!

The eggs were so yummy that I had to stop each child at 2. Look at all of our shells just from the preschoolers.

We went to visit the real bunnies that live on our back property and of course we wore our bunny masks, so we wouldn't scare them. We even saw the cute baby bunnies. The students did a great job and were dousma gentle.
